So an update on my old rig, I will get some specs up soon, when I get the thing going and some pictures of this beast!

So my current problems are that my ATX 12v rail cable is not long enough to reach the socket in my mobo!! So now I have to wait 2 weeks to a month for some cheap cables from china, bought off ebay for a few dollars...

Once I receive that 12v ATX rail I will finally be able to see if this beast actually works and that the mobo isnt fried or anything. I'm hoping for the best out of this thing. Its quite good for $25, even the case alone is still worth $25.

Until next time everyone!Bloggeragehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07751305865518219632noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6685494696747087595.post-819499247024219792013-10-13T01:18:00.000-07:002013-10-13T01:18:38.873-07:00Building a cheap rig for funA few days ago I cam across a local classifieds website that offers free advertisements for people around my area!

This Tuesday I will be picking up a 2 year old Coolmaster case and a 400watt PSU! For only $25! I have to say that's a pretty good deal. I'm not sure if this comes with a mobo as well but I have to start somewhere!

I have found a 256mb PSU for $9 on ebay that I should get around to buying once I get a motherboard to stick in this case I shall be getting in two day!

About VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol).

Recently I have finally upgraded my internet to a plan where I can actually brows and use the internet without having to wait about 10 minutes for each page to load... And with that, comes the opportunity to finally try out a VoIP service!!!

Now, you are probably thinking, what the heck is VoIP? Well, let me explain the concept...

VoIP uses an internet connection to deliver voice communications over the internet, rather than your normal copper phone line.

VoIP works by sending 'packets' of data (these packets of data are created by converting analogue signals aka what a normal telephone call uses, created by your voice),
Packets are the basis that every internet application uses.

These packets contain your voice that has been converted into binary form (digital / eg: 10101), then on the receiving end these packets are then converted back into their original form (analogue / your voice) and vise versa. This is the super basic concept of VoIP.

Making a call using the internet is ALOT cheaper than using a standard telephone connection as this call bypasses your local telephone company and their charges.

So.. If you want to save money and have a decent internet connection, what are you waiting for?

From my time on e-bay I have come to the conclusion that some people don't know how to shop around or just have too much money.

I was bidding on a some half decent 512MB ATI, I thought to myself, yea $20 + $10(postage) is more than enough for this card. Oh how I was wrong...

Before browsing e-bay for a PCI GPU I had a look around on www.pccasegear.com to get a idea of how much the cheaper end of the GPU market was. I found several pretty decent 1GB GPU's for about $35-40 as listed here: GPU 1 and GPU 2 Both have decent reviews too! Just to give myself I nice idea of pricing for a second hand, old, GPU so I wouldn't waste money.

This one 512mb ATI gpu beast on e-bay managed to get bidded up to $58! AUD and thats not including the $10 postage! So someone paid $68 for this second hand, potentially faulty GPU when they could have bought a band new one, with a warrenty and that performs better from pccasegear for around $55! I'm beginning to consider just buying a new one from pccasegear if things like this keep happening!

Well, at-least that's one lesson learned. I should sell more old crap on e-bay! I might just get lucky!

Thanks for visiting!!!

Bloggeragehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07751305865518219632noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6685494696747087595.post-19228273465250454742013-09-02T22:08:00.001-07:002013-09-02T22:08:49.063-07:00In the beginning...

When I first decided to upgrade my computer I thought, well, I have a decent motherboard, all I need is to upgrade my CPU and get a graphics card. - I was thinking of getting a nice AMD athlon 64 X2(dual core) 4500+, that runs around 2000-2200ghz, + a cheap 512/256mb graphics card from ebay.

Currently my computer that I want to upgrade has 64mb intergrated graphics and a 1.8ghz single core CPU (bad I know.)

I thought to myself, well this seems easy! Apparently all I need to do is get the parts and plug them in, update a driver or two and bam! My computer would be able to run some half decent older games. I was planning on spending less than $50. It seemed too easy to be true, so I asked overclock.net....

One thing that I forgot about was the PSU (Power supply unit - this converts AC power to DC power that a computer can use)! I totally overlooked this vital component of any computer! After a bit of research I found out that I have a OEM (basically a cheap original manufacturer type) PSU, that only has just over enough watts to run the parts that is has right now. It currently only produces a small 300 watts.

If I went ahead and tried to just plug in a GPU(graphics processing unit) without realizing about my basic PSU I would have caused all sorts of trouble...

So... The moral of this story is... Even though you might think a good graphics card, some ram and CPU are the main parts of you computer that you need to worry about.. well, you are right... Almost. BUT! You have forgot the thing that makes all of these work! The PSU! Most gaming computers now need a wopping 600-800 watts to power all of their components.

So, with that said. I now need to try and find myself a decent, cheap PSU for my old computer.

or just get a new one lol

Well, I am and here is a few tips. After thinking about making my own computer for literately an age I have finally started learning about what is required for someone to build their own computer.

When I first began trying to work out what I would need to learn so I can make my own computer I was scowling the internet all over the place, a lot of the time I was also given conflicting opinions on things such as Should you get a SSD (Solid state drive), use AMD or Itel and things along those lines.

BUT after a week or so, I finally found somewhere great. That said great place is a forum, named Overclock.net. At first I thought to myself Overclock? I don't want to overclock! I just want to learn the basics first! But after creating an account and spending almost 2 hours viewing their forums and reading posts I realized this is the goldmine I have been searching for, for the past week!

There is so much useful information there it is astounding. There are plenty of posts aimed at people just like me, or you - For those who have basically no idea at all. Haha.

Just from being there for a few days, asking a few questions and reading heaps of posts I have found out more than I knew ever existed todo with building your own computer.

In the next few following posts I will be talking about my journey to, First upgrade my pile of junk computer that I currently have, to get a taste of what this is like, and to eventually build a brand new computer!

Above is my practice build - A rig that, one day, I hope to make!
But probably by the time I get around to it, this will be outdated. Haha.Bloggeragehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07751305865518219632noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6685494696747087595.post-50782895694921293242013-08-26T21:02:00.001-07:002013-08-26T21:02:29.558-07:00Send and receive FREE text messages/picture messages online? (MSM & MMS) - Too good to be true you say?Well, after finally being able to begin to browse the internet I have found quite a few interesting and useful websites.
I have come across one very useful website! This website lets you send AND receive messages via a virtual mobile phone number that you can use from your computer!
This website is called Pinger.com, I have started using it and it seems really good!
Great for those sign up's that require you to have a phone number, I don't want to be spammed by random people or share my mobile number with a bunch of random websites! Pinger is perfect for this.
Just thought I would share this epic website. :)

Getting rid of programs you don’t use and deleting unnecessary files from your hard drive can go a long way to speed up your computer. Even if you have 200gb free space aswell, getting rid of clutter can significantly increase the speed of your computer!Bloggeragehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07751305865518219632noreply@blogger.com10tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6685494696747087595.post-58914169036127849432011-09-15T18:10:00.001-07:002011-09-15T18:10:13.939-07:00[Hotkeys v2] A few hotkeys that will boost your productivity!! [windows]Here is an updated list of useful hotkeys that I use nearly every day!:

Win + E brings up ‘computer’ window

Win + X brings up windows mobility centre (screen brightness/volume)
Windows button + r = brings up the 'run' window
Alt+F4 = Close a window, or an application, brings up the shutdown screen if on desktop.(good for when your at work!)
Alt + Tab = Cycle through open applications. (also good for quickly hiding tabs)
Windows button + m = Minimize all apps. VERY useful for instantly getting to your desktop! Note another hotkey: Windows button + w is just like Windows button + m but if you press it again your windows will come up again
Windows button + f = Find files/programs on your computer.
When you are in your browser you can use CTRL+F and then type something to find that specific word on that page.
You can also hold Ctrl and scroll up/down to zoom in/out while you are in your browser.
And last but not least we have the most common shortcut that everyone should know how to use:
Copy the file/text CTRL + C
Paste the file/text CTRL + V
Cut the file/text (deletes after copying) CTRL + X
Undo last action CTRL + Z
Reverse last Undo action if possible CTRL + Y

Here are some more useful shortcuts for people using Windows 7:
And I need some ideas for simple programs that I can aim for and try to make!

Also, does anyone know any sites where I could download random programs and get the sourse code?

Thanks guys!Bloggeragehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07751305865518219632noreply@blogger.com10tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6685494696747087595.post-29096417857076278002011-08-09T00:29:00.000-07:002011-08-09T00:34:14.046-07:00[Tutorial] Anti-viruses and keeping your computer secureKeeping your computer secure from hackers, adware and viruses is not very hard, all you need is some common sense and some know-how. Here and the next few following posts I will teach you a few simple steps you can take to help prevent your computer from being infected or hacked.

anti-virus scanners
1. One of the best free antivirus scanners that I have come across is easily Malwarebytes anti-malware from -> www.malwarebytes.org/ If you have not got this on your computer I recommend heading over to their website and download it right now! The only downside to this program is that it has no run-time scanning (this is the free version), it has to be manually updated and set to start scanning.

2. Another great free antivirus is avast. It is a good all-round anti-virus with runtime scanning (scans files as you use them) it also automatically updates and has a gaming mode so it does not start scanning your computer/downloading updates while you have this option ticked.

MalwareBytes+Avast+Windows firewall is a great combination for all of your antivirus needs.

One more Extremely useful tip is that if you ever download a suspicious file eg: 'CSS HACK 2.4' you can use an online scanner such as -> http://www.virustotal.com/ to upload your file to a server that will then scan that file with many different antiviruses to see if it is infected or not. You will then be given the result.
Its easy to setup, cheap and easy to add extend upon.

But alas with using wifi there also comes some risk. As you are sending your information through the air (unlike a physical cable) it can be intercepted or unintended users could access your network.

Here are a few simple steps that will throw off your next door neighbours kid with his skid hacking tools and make your wifi network secure.

WEP and WPA

WEP stands for Wireless encryption protocol Wep is practically useless, It can be cracked within a matter of seconds using automated tools that can be downloaded from the internet. Hence why you should use WPA. WPA is more secure and takes more skill to crack.

Mac address filtering

If your router has this option, USE IT.
To find your MAC (or physical address) in the CMD command prompt type 'ipconfig /all'
Copy the physical address and paste that into your 'Allow from only selected MAC' MAC address list. This will make your router only accept traffic from the specified MAC addresses.

Disable the broadcast of SSID

SSID is the name of your network (SSID stands for standards for service set identifier), Select the option so your SSID is not broadcast or visible, People will need to type in the name of your network to join it. So if your next-door neighbour is searching for a open network they wont be able to find it and they will need the exact name to be able to join!

If you have any questions, feel free to ask and I shall get back to you ASAP
Bloggeragehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07751305865518219632noreply@blogger.com18tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6685494696747087595.post-44216710626875404652011-07-24T18:55:00.000-07:002011-08-09T00:36:55.547-07:00[Hotkeys] A few hotkeys that will bost your productivity!! I welcome you to my guide describing
the method to get a free VPS. Here is some basic information about the VPS.
Disk Space : 15GB
Data Transfer limit : 5GB
RAM : 1GB
Processor : 2.2Ghz
Internet Speed : 100MBPS
Lifetime of VPS : 5 Days from registration. Hey com’n it’s free!
Please note
This VPS will not run in any domain that means you can’t run any site from this VPS. BUT, you can run
any bot, software that needs running for long time and any other of your 'special' needs!
everything you want but can’t do with your slow speed.
What you can do with this VPS:
Do heavy data transfer. I want to share one of my usages; I got a job one day to transfer a site to one
host to another host. It was a movie site that has a Database of 150MB; my download speed is 15kbps
so how can I download it to my pc then upload to the another web host? I just turn my VPS up,
download the database in 5 seconds, and upload in 2 seconds. Job done
You just need to follow two steps that’s all!
I have run a test

Step One: Starting The VPS
1. Visit this site: http://elastichosts.com
2. You will see a button named “Free trial” on the top right corner
to chose, USA or UK. You have to choose one of them. Click on the desired server location.
3. You will now see a “Registration Form”. You have to fill it up.
your email and mobile phone number has to be correct.
4. After you click “Register”, they will send the password via email and SMS. Check both of them and
figure out the password. The first part of the password will be sent to email and the second part of the
password will be sent to your mobile phone.
5. Now go to the site again, chose your server location and click login.
6. Once you’re logged in with your email and password you are ready to setup your VPS.
7. You will see a box on the right hand side of the control panel n
like this:
Now c
8. You will see a server created on the left side of the control panel. Now, get its “VNC IP” and “VNC
password”.
9. Google the word “TightVNC”, download
10. Setup the software and run it. Give your server IP and it will ask for the password. Copy-Paste
password and bam! You’re on your VPS
Name
HDD
OS
•
of the page. You will see two options
Important: You can give fake name, but
e named “Create Server”. Make a server
click “Create”. Bam! Your VPS is running.
it.
d VPS.

Step Two: Installing Operating System

11. After you login with TightVNC, a window will pop up. You will see “Windows Server 2008
installation” in it. Click “Install now”
12. Enter this serial number on the next page:
13. On the next page, you will be asked to select your windows’ edition. Select the “Data Center”
edition. Click next.
14. Agree with the agreements and click next.
15. Your OS is installing now, wait until it’s finished and restarted. Normally it takes 10-15 mins. You can
close TightVNC, watch some porn’s and login again. Remember your VPS will always running if you don’t
shut down it from Elastichost’s Control Panel.
16. After the installation is finished, you will be asked to create an Administrator account. Create it with
a good password. Must be 8 characters long, with uppercase letters and numbers.
Your VPS is created and running. Now you can run any software/bot.
Tips:
1. If you want to visit websites, download anything, you should download Firefox even though there is
Internet explorer already. IE will give warnings each time you visit a site. It’s so annoying, believe me.
2. You might download TeamViwer and install, if you are having slow speed on tightVNC.Bloggeragehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07751305865518219632noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6685494696747087595.post-20450337590285136852011-07-21T05:04:00.001-07:002011-08-09T00:39:18.388-07:00A Guide to Proxies
Here are some tips on using proxies. I will be updating this to re-word it and make it better.

Simply send an Email to the following Email address to receive a list of proxies daily.

proxism-subscribe@yahoogroups.com

Or

http://www.tech-faq.com/subscribe-proxy

If your school/workplace blocks proxies/hosting sites, there is usually at least one or two that have made it past the filter in those e-mailing lists. (from my experience at a very strict college.)

Another method of gaining access to blocked websites at your work/school is to download Firefox Portable from http://portableapps.com/apps/internet/firefox_portable you will also, obviously, need a USB.

And then getting some proxies from http://www.samair.ru/proxy/time-01.htm at home or a computer that does not have filtered internet and copy a few to a text file and save it somewhere you can find later on your USB

then add them to Firefox portable via Tools>Options>Advanced>network>(connection)Setting>Manual proxy configuration. Then pasting that information into the HTTP proxy text box.

NOTE: when you copied the proxies from http://www.samair.ru/proxy/time-01.htm they should look like this 129.0.0.1:80 notice the :80? This is the port number that needs to be entered next to the IP of the proxy in the text box.
